Superyacht buyer's guide
6-step guide for first-time buyers
How to purchase a yacht? We work hand-in-hand with our clients to guide and advise you on every single aspect of a yacht purchase. Ultimately, our goal is to ensure that the buying process is smooth and trouble-free.
By your side, every step of the way
Step 1: Identify Your Yachting Plans
Consider how you would like to use your yacht. Where would you like to explore? How many people will generally be on board with you? What amenities would you like on board? Your Broker will discuss all this and much more with you in an initial call.
Step 2: Receive and Refine Your Selection
Using a combination of the to-the-minute market intelligence and decades of experience (an average of 24 years each), your Broker will source a selection of yachts, both on and off the market, to suit your preferences. As well as detailing every yacht’s unique assets and what you can expect from time on board, your Broker will provide a full history, anticipated upcoming running costs, details of expected maintenance and any potential weaker points, to minimise future surprises.
Step 3: Onboard Visits - In Person or Virtually
An onboard visit offers a true sense of the yacht’s spaces and onboard life. If you prefer, your Broker can conduct a virtual tour first - or even in place of a physical tour altogether.
Step 4: Securing the Best Price on Your Behalf
Ready to make an offer? Market knowledge and a track record of successful sales closed mean your Fraser Broker knows exactly what represents a fair price for your chosen yacht. As a highly experienced negotiator, your Broker works on your behalf to negotiate with the Seller until you can be sure the best terms are secured.
Step 5: Contract, Sea Trials & Surveys
If your offer is accepted, the yacht goes under contract. During this time, various checks must be made. Working alongside an experienced Broker ensures that the complex process of buying a yacht remains enjoyable for you throughout – and offers peace of mind that your interests remain protected. During sea trials and surveys, the onboard and operational knowledge of your Fraser Broker works to ensure your yacht performs as promised and you remain protected, now and going forward. And when it comes to offers and contracts, Fraser’s dedicated financial and legal specialists work with your legal team to ensure your interests are tightly protected before anything is signed.
Step 6: The Final Stages
Once closing is completed and before you step on board, Fraser can help with every detail of making the yacht operationally ready for you. Dedicated Yacht Management and Crew Recruitment specialists are on hand to assist, and should you be planning a refit, our Project Management department are ready to advise. And when you come to sell, returning to Fraser means you return to a team with a proven track record of successful sales in every size range.
