The build process
Building a yacht is an extremely complex business, involving many parties and a substantial investment. Outlined here is an overview of the process that you can expect, with your interests represented and protected every step of the way. Your Project Manager will discuss with you in more detail the full process.
Planning your yacht
The planning stage is one of the most important aspects of building a yacht. Your Project Manager will work with you to ensure that all of your requirements are carefully set out, budgets are realistic and timelines are feasible. We will review all existing documents and create plans based upon your requirements, using our in-depth knowledge of bidding processes and construction methods.
The dream team: choosing your designer and shipyard
From your own experience you may already have a designer or shipyard in mind. If not, find an overview of superyacht shipyards and their unique offerings here. Each designer and shipyard have their own style and reputation. We will prepare a shortlist based on your requirements for discussion, then send out a design specification to tender. We will assist you in the review of the proposals and once you have chosen who you wish to work with we will assist you in the negotiation of the contract, using decades of experience to ensure your interests are fully prioritised.
Design and Build
Once the designer and shipyard have been chosen, your Project Manager will work closely with all parties involved to ensure that all the plans and specifications are followed. They will monitor the build process and construction quality, protecting your interests at every stage and representing you on the ground at the yard. They will also ensure that the yacht is fully Class and Flag compliant and that all machinery and systems installed are fully approved. They will negotiate any change orders that may be needed and closely follow the payment schedule to ensure that the project remains on budget.
Completion and Delivery
Your Project Manager will monitor the final stages of the build and outfitting of the yacht, an extremely busy period working with many contractors to ensure that everything is delivered and installed correctly. They will attend the sea trials and verify that the yacht is operating properly, using their in-depth knowledge to ensure that any issues are identified and resolved quickly. Working with Fraser Yacht Management and The Crew Network, they will also be able to assist in the hiring of crew, setting up of operational procedures and the formalities involved in the delivery and acceptance of the yacht. After the delivery they will remain on hand to manage all warranty items with the shipyard until you are fully satisfied with your brand new yacht.
