Second of two SeaXplorer Yachts project managed by Fraser - The launch

On 7 July 2020, the fully outfitted LA DATCHA in her full glory splashed the water for the first time, ready for delivery in September 2020. The Fraser Project Management team was proud to attend this immensely significant moment for this ground-breaking vessel. “It was impressive to see her lines on the water - she has her own pedigree,” said Fraser Project Manager Alexander Pizano, speaking moments after the launch. “Just one year ago, her outfitting stage started. It is hard to believe what Amels, the Owner’s team, Fraser and all subcontractors have achieved in this extremely tight schedule and from the start of the project.”

Technical Launch

A proud milestone for Russian entrepreneur Oleg Tinkov, Damen Shipyard Galati and the Fraser Project Management team as the latest and largest Seaxplorer to date, the 76.9m (252’) LA DATCHA, hits the water in Romania.

“DAMEN’s SeaXplorer platforms take yachting and exploration to another level,’’ explains Fraser Project Manager for both newbuilds, Chris Semmens. “They have combined yacht and commercial shipping know-how, expertise and experience into one exceptionally capable platform. DAMEN has also been outstanding in taking ideas our owners have for enhancing the vessels, researching them in-house and then being able to deliver on them. LA DATCHA is a superb example of that - the build and specification for this yacht really reflects the energy and the drive of the Owner himself.”

Now on her way to the Netherlands for outfitting and unique custom interiors inspired by Mr Tinkov and created by his LA DATCHA PROPERTIES designer of choice, Vasiliy Shprits, the 2,560GT “private ice-breaking expedition yacht” LA DATCHA is scheduled for delivery in September 2020.

"If DAMEN has taken explorer yachts to another level with this platform, this owner has taken SeaXplorers to the next level,” says Chris. “It is Ice-Class and IMO Polar Code engineered, is capable of 40 days autonomy between ports, can carry and store two helicopters of up to 4,000kg with refueling capabilities so guests can heliski and explore further inland. It holds a three-person submarine, dive decompression chambers (our other Seaxplorer has a unique portable chamber - the logistics and planning behind that have been impressive!). And of course, there is a host of toys including snowmobiles and three tenders, one of which is a Certified Lifeboat – a unique conversion concept requested by the Owner and which we assisted Azure Naval Architects, the yacht’s exterior designers, on developing. It is most probably the world’s first luxury limo tender that is actually a Fassmer lifeboat."

“The Earth is so big and our life is so short, so we have to explore as much as we can. The SeaXplorer project is just perfect. I fell in love with the shape and the design...”
OLEG TINKOV

DESIGNED FOR TRAVEL
“She is a game-changer in so many ways,” concludes Chris. “Both SeaXplorer projects are, through in different ways. And it is refreshing to see that the Owners of both projects fully intend to use their yachts a lot. I think Mr Tinkov has already booked in 20 weeks for his own use when LA DATCHA heads off on her first 2-year world tour. Seaxplorers are designed for travel, for exploring the Arctic as much as the Amazon or even the Mediterranean. As I think Rose Damen once said – these vessels are the ultimate crossover of serious capability and engineering wrapped up in the quality and finish of a superyacht. I think that pretty much sums them up.”
