Yachting Regattas in the Mediterranean in September 2016
Sailing yachts will be put through their paces in September with a busy schedule of yachting regattas throughout the Western Mediterranean. Sardinia’s fabled emerald coastline will be the setting for much of the action, with the Yacht Club Costa Smerelda hosting two upcoming regattas. Founded in 1967, this yacht club is one of the biggest promoters of international sailing races in the world, having organised their first championship in 1980.
International Maxi Association, a fleet of the finest and most technologically advanced yachts will meet on Sardinia’s emerald coastline for some of the world’s most exciting racing in an array of divisions, including the Supermaxi division for yachts over 30.5m. S/Y OHANA from the Fraser Yachts charter fleet will be competing in the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in 2016. S/Y OHANA is a spectacular sloop with a length of 49.70m and a distinctive aluminium hull of a sophisticated grey. Built by Fitzroy Yachts in 2012, S/Y OHANA accommodates up to 10 guests in five luxurious staterooms. The attention to detail sets her apart: integrated light fixtures illuminate her whitewashed oak interior to create an elegant and stylish environment.
A day separates the conclusion of the maxi yacht competition and the start of the Rolex Swan Cup and Swan 45 World Championship - also organised by the YCCS. Held between September 11th and 18th this year, the regatta - which was first held in 1980 - will attract an array of stunning yachts from the Nautor’s Swan shipyard. The 2016 edition is set to be particularly memorable as the renowned builder is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Over 100 yachts ranging from 11m to 35m in length participate in the biannual regatta, with a separate Swan 45 World Championship held during the event.
A busy month of racing draws to a conclusion on the French Riviera between September 24th and October 2nd for Les Voiles de St Tropez. Now in its 26th year, the event attracts sailing yacht enthusiasts from around the globe, who descend upon St Tropez for a week of racing. Both modern and classic sailing yachts will take to the water in one of yachting’s most iconic settings.
