OHANA finishes 3rd in Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta & Rendezvous 2016
Fraser Yachts is delighted to offer congratulations to one of the sailing yachts in its charter fleet, OHANA, on finishing third in class in this year’s Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta and Rendezvous.
An annual event, the Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta has become one of the most celebrated superyacht races in the calendar and is organised by Boat International Media and the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. Taking place in the stunning waters off the coast of Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands, this year saw 21 sailing yachts, divided into four classes, take part over three days of nail-biting competition.
Meanwhile eight luxury yachts, including FAR NIENTE, took part in the Westport Rendezvous, a new event added to the programme this year. These yachts cruised together as part of the Cruise in Company and were able to spectate as the races took place, and enjoyed various other activities such as a scavenger hunt. After a tricky start to the regatta whereby a technical issue prevented her from racing on the first day, OHANA and her crew did exceedingly well on the second day and triumphed by finishing in second place, hot on the heels of the yacht (SEAHAWK) in the lead. On the third and final day a downwind start and between 20 and 24 knots of easterly winds enhanced the suspense of an already exciting finale. OHANA put in a strong performance once more and ended the race in third place, resulting in placing third overall in her class. Full results of all classes can be found here. By all accounts the guests and crew thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and the crew should congratulate themselves on their hard work and stellar performance. For now though they must look forward to the next event, hot on the heels of the Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta, the St. Barth’s Bucket, which begins on 17th March.
