Jan Jaap Minnema speaks at Superyacht Investor London 2025

Fraser Sales Broker Jan Jaap Minnema gave expert insight from his 25-year yachting career as a panelist at the Superyacht Investor event in London on 25 March.

Speaking as part of the Broking for Gold panel, Jan Jaap and fellow Brokers discussed a range of topics including:
- Why a broker is so important in a new build project
- Bridging the gap between buyer and seller
- Is there a risk of stagflation in the brokerage market?
- What can brokers do to work more effectively with the industry? And vice versa?
- Why are brokers’ commissions justified?
- If you had a magic wand, how would you change the brokerage industry? What’s the biggest pain point from your perspective?
- Broker superpowers and top tips
The lively discussion also touched on other subjects and opinions, including whether a qualification should be introduced for yacht Brokers.
All Brokers on the panel agreed that the role of Broker is more important than ever to make sense of the wealth of data available, a key added value of any Broker. “There’s so much data, but it is worthless if you don’t put it in perspective and explain to a client what it is all about," said Jan Jaap. "Then you can have an educated decision.”
On the importance of using a trusted, reliable and experienced Broker, Jan Jaap commented: "People get badly advised, they get into boats that are not really good for them, they get disappointed and get out of boating because they’re not happy. Pleasure is the only reason these things exist. So make it a good and pleasurable experience."
