IWD - Fraser Celebrates Female Captains

In honour of International Women’s Day, which takes place annually on 8th March around the world, Fraser is proud to celebrate the female Captains within our fleet. While there are many female crew members working on superyachts in a range of roles globally, the coveted role of Captain is still predominantly held by men. Thankfully this is changing and, having pledged for parity last year, Fraser is proud to showcase some of the brilliant female Captains within the current fleet.

BIG EAGLE, is a 52.4M luxury motor yacht for charter with Fraser with lots to offer. The Captain, Christiana, pictured above, ensures charter guests experience the itinerary that is just perfect for them. Christiana hails from California, and has always enjoyed activities involving water such as sailing, diving and surfing. A qualified dive master, she is able to guide charter guests on dives and has captained the yacht around the world, including the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. Speaking about equality in the industry, Christiana says, “it is refreshing after starting out 25 years ago as a woman on the deck side of the industry to see how the industry has progressed with regards to women in deck roles.  I hope I continue to see more and more female captains!”



Captain Tina Jackson, who worked as Captain on HELIOS 2, a 51.1M Palmer Johnson yacht for sale with Fraser, says of her career, “I have been working at sea since 1996, on various vessels from traditionally built square rig ships, to motor yachts and racing sail yachts. It has been an interesting 20 years, seeing the changes in the yachting industry and especially the role of females. As long as you set your goals, work hard to achieve them, there is no position you cannot achieve, male or female.”



Captain Sonya Meek is in charge of 43M Feadship yacht ECLIPSE, currently for sale with Fraser, and has much experience in the industry. Highly respected and valued by members of her crew, both past and present, she is a very professional personality with a wealth of knowledge.

Captain Veronica Hast has recently joined the crew of luxury yacht FAR NIENTE, available for charter with Fraser, and has varied experience covering both yachts for private use and charter yachts. Having spent over 28 years in the industry Veronica has a deep understanding of what makes an outstanding charter experience and is filled with passion for the sea and the adventures it offers.

While it is still true to say that equality has not quite been reached in several fields and that there is still a long way to go in terms of the well-documented pay gap that exists all over the world, with strong females like these in our fleet inspiring the next generation of ‘yachties’, Fraser is confident that the gender disparity seen across all positions on board will continue to reduce.
