Follow in the footsteps of newly weds Prince William and his beautiful bride Catherine Middleton who are understood to have chosen the idyllic islands of the Seychelles for their honeymoon. Currently staying on one of the archipelagos 100-plus islands in the Indian Ocean that lies just south of Madagascar the couple will undoubtedly be enjoying this holiday before returning the England and their royal duties.
Rumours are rife that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have opted to holiday on the island of Desroches, a four-mile long paradise which is about 150 miles south west of Seychelles’ main island Mahe. The royal couple visited the principal island of the Amirantes Group four years ago.
Amirantes is a chain of coral islands atolls or islets lying on a shallow bank of sand and coral. The name of the group is said to have come from Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama who named them Ilhas do Almirante – or The Admiral’s Isles - in 1501 on a voyage to the Indies. Desroches is the only inhabited island in the Amirantes Group, and is accessible to very few tourists as the Seychelles government is desperate to retain its beauty. The island boasts one hotel and a dive centre, and remains well worth a visit on a super yacht charter if you can gain permission. To gain access yacht charter Seychelles guests must possess an Amirantes-approved licence and employ an approved skipper. The waters off the Amirantes islands are also a prime site for fishing, which can be organised on your super yacht charter. Both deep sea game fishing and seawater fly fishing can be arranged. But getting permission, which must be done in advanced of your yacht charter Seychelles, is a small price to pay for a cruise around one of the most stunning sailing destinations in the world.
With mile upon mile of brilliant, white sandy beaches and deep turquoise blue water the Amirantes islands and the Seychelles as a whole provides a sailing paradise. Some islands, are only accessible on a super yacht charter from October to May so please enquire in advance.
