Effortless Chic: Balearic Islands

Sophisticated dining, sultry beats and the promise of a new adventure each day – where else could it be, but the Balearic Islands?

Achingly hip, the Balearic Islands invite wellness and hedonism in equal measure: dance until dawn at Space on Ibiza or sink into steaming hot springs on Formentera. Or do both! While Ibiza oozes charisma from every inch of its Instagrammable terroir, the historic limestone city of Palma on neighbouring Mallorca – famous for its Gothic cathedral and legendary sailing regattas – moves at
a slower, more sedate speed.

Even more chilled, is the archipelago of Cabrera. Nineteen islands make up the Cabrera Maritime-Terrestrial National Park, which is a wonderland for nature-lovers. Keep your eyes peeled for Balearic lizards, kestrels and turtles, and be sure to snorkel the illuminated waters of the Blue Cave before you raise anchor.

EXPERT INSIGHT

“In Mallorca, visit the quaint towns of Deia and Valldemossa and anchor off the dramatic cliffside bay of Cala Bañalbufar for a day of ‘water fun’. There are beautiful hiking trails throughout the island and over 70 wine Bodegas set amongst spectacular backdrops. In the old town of Palma, be sure to have cocktails at the magical ‘Bar Abaco’ located in a 17th-century manor house that, at its inception in 1980, was noted to be the most beautiful bar in the world. Ibiza is not all ‘party’. The quieter and stunning north coast with its coves and quaint towns, should not be missed. Formentera and Menorca are less famous than their sister islands but even here you can find great restaurants and the occasional beach party.”
