Destination Thailand for an Unforgettable Charter Experience

Known for its tropical beaches, ancient ruins, lavish palaces and temples, Thailand is a preferred destination for those interested in delicious food and a wealth of culture.

Fraser has put together the ultimate Charter Guide for a memorable charter in Thailand. Keep reading to hear more from an experienced Captain, to discover the suggested itinerary, and finally which yachts are available to embark on your Thai adventure.

There are many great reasons to visit Thailand and even more reasons to do so on board a yacht. The country is rich in culture, history, nature, and cuisine. There are hundreds of islands, big and small, to visit, and no better way to get a full picture of it all than with a Charter with an experienced Captain and curated itinerary.

Eric Meudal, who, has been a Captain for 18 years now, and is currently Captain on board CAMARA C (available for Charter in Thailand) highlights Thailand as “a fantastic place for navigation, so different to anywhere else in the world.” He describes it as a paradise “with a wealth of different spots, turquoise waters with an almost lunar atmosphere as well as unique bays like the Phand Nga Bay where one is completely transported to another world.”

Captain Eric Meudal
Eric has more than 25 years' experience in the maritime industry and is Captain on board CAMARA C since 2020. During his career, he has extensively cruised Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, Andaman Sea, New Caledonia, but also Australia, New Zealand, and Vanuatu. Eric became Captain of his first yacht in 2016 and gained experience on both charter and private yachts. Eric got his French Master of Law in 1990 and his Captain 200 Utv1S certificate in 1996. He is thrilled to work on board the beautiful CAMARA C and he cannot wait to take you around the wonderful land of Thailand.

Captain/Guide: Lee Thai
Lee is an experienced Captain that cruised in Thailand for lli years and with Captain Eric Meudal for 7 years.

Chartering in Thailand is very much dictated by the monsoon season, with the best conditions found between mid-October and the beginning of April. Captain Meudal remarks that during this time, “the most interesting sites and their surrounding waters are protected from the winds and swell from the West and you are guaranteed sunshine.”

Captain Meudal who has says he's been "on Charter" for 8 years now in Thailand invites Charterers to come to Thailand now more than ever before. In a post-pandemic world, "tourism has not yet picked up in droves, pollution is down and the sites are almost desert-like and open for discovery." As he puts it, "it is a selfish luxury, and something truly special to see for those who would have already cruised through these parts a few years ago."

Together with Captain Meudal, Fraser is delighted to share  a 7 night/8 day itinerary intended to discover all the most beautiful and remote places in and around Phuket. Working with the Captain, you can follow this suggested itinerary or tailor to your particular needs and desires. CAMARA C, who is fresh out of a refit in 2022 allowing for remarkably low engine hours for a 60 year old boat, and her dynamic crew are ready to welcome you on board and show you the Thailand they know and love in the best possible conditions.

While corners of this beautiful island have been handed over to development, you can still find those golden corners away from the full moon parties and tourist hordes. Phi Phi Leh is all lyrical carved cliffs and crystal clear waters - a dream for snorkelling and seeing with crystal clear visibility all the pleasures of the underwater world. While its smaller sister island is completely free from civilization, Koh Rok has a landing deck, a slightly busier beach that can thrum with day-trippers, and a small restaurant. Time on the island is best-spent swimming, sunbathing, and snorkelling the truly impressive reefs that stretch out for over a square mile. Thriving with life, you can see everything from floating sea turtles to angelfish, pufferfish, and all kinds of anemones buzzing beneath the sea.

DAY 5: Koh Rok - Ko Lipe (Butang Islands)
Distance: 40nm | Duration: 4h 30m

Fanning out south in Thailand’s Andaman Sea, the Butang Islands is home to pristine beaches, crystal clear waterfalls, and the exotic breath of flora and fauna. The four main isles sit in a circle around a number of uninhabited islets and this archipelago is considered to be one of the most striking spots for sailing. A wealth of underwater life, a protected marine park, and impressive scuba diving and snorkelling are just a handful of reasons to visit this heavenly spot. There are two larger islands of Ko Adang and Ko Rowi and the smaller islands of Ko Tanga and Ko Khai. Each island has its own soul but what connects them all is tropical forest brimming with orchids and other wildflowers along with scuttling geckos, monkeys, and flying foxes. Few roads and villages can be found on the islands preserving the rugged interior and karst limestone hems in the coast. Waters brim with soft coral and in the deeper hues, you can find minke whales and bottlenose dolphins. For charter guests daydreaming of whimsical white sands and castaway scenes, sailing the Butang Islands is sugar for the soul.
