Coastal Wonders: New England

Thriving marinas, freshly caught seafood and nostalgic coastal villages are a few of the treats in store for those undertaking an all-American voyage in New England.

From the yachting capital of Newport and the eternally charming Martha’s Vineyard to the whaling island of Nantucket, New England combines bright coastal villages, seafood pulled straight from the sea and vast empty beaches – all to a backing track of jazz beats. Cruise through stunning Cape Cod en route to Provincetown where humpbacks, finback and minke whales migrate to in the spring and autumn. Be sure to stop off at Newport (Rhode Island) where sailing regattas are an age-old tradition. Stroll along the town’s historic waterfront and you may well hear echoes from more than 50 years of America’s Cup matches.

Catching a Boston Red Sox baseball game in Boston is a must (it’s played in one of the oldest parks in the major leagues), as is walking the city’s Freedom Trail. Next, drop anchor at Portland, Maine, and dive into a melting pot of seafood – we’re talking clam chowder and lobster rolls – before moving onto Mount Desert Island, home of Acadia National Park.

Expert Insight

"Start your charter exploring historic Newport, RI, with its abundance of cultural activities. Wind down with an aperitif at Castle Hill. Cruise to Block Island with its Victorian hotels and take a lighthouse tour by bike or helicopter. Visit Cuttyhunk Island and enjoy fresh lobster, available at the dock and prepared by your chef. On Martha’s Vineyard, Edgartown has the best shops, historic churches, homes and
restaurants. Head to The Atlantic for its yacht club vibe. Throw the watertoys overboard and splash around in Tarpaulin Cove. Nantucket features exquisite antique shops, art galleries, museums and chowder houses. Lunch at the Jared Coffin House. Bicycle along miles of rustic carriage road in Bar Harbor.”
